Mentoring Matters
SAFEGUARDING THE FUTURE OF YOUNG LIVES
Children of prisoners are seven times more likely to experience imprisonment than their peers. Prison Fellowship believes in providing hope and guidance for the children of prisoners.
In conjunction with our services to prisoners, Prison Fellowship South Australia also endeavours to reduce crime through innovative preventative programs which touch the lives of children right here in Adelaide.
With early intervention mentoring projects like Paving the Way (8-12 years) and The Way (12 years plus) we are seeing real change in young lives.
A recent study in Australia tried to identify what factors might impact the lives of street kids and help them to become involved members of society for the future.
One factor stood out as imperative for success. A person who cared! People who turned their lives around needed one person who cared.
Our kids are not living on the streets yet but they do need someone who cares.
Paving The Way will safeguard the future of our young people by introducing them to people like you, with a heart to influence positively. Mentors can broaden a young person’s view of the world and community, strengthening connections and bringing a hope for the future.
Here is what one of our current mentors had to say about the program;
I have been completely drenched by the water pistol, beaten at mini golf, every car racing game and in the water slide races. In amongst it all we talked and laughed and a young boy opened up about his family and life. I am honoured to be a part of Prison Fellowship Mentoring. I can really see that I have grown too and the support has been wonderful.
Mentoring is a hugely rewarding process with great benefits for all involved. Please contact Sally Graham if you would like to know more about how you can be trained to become a mentor and change a life – a life which may go down a path of criminal activity if it hadn’t been for you caring.
