The WerX is an initiative to support and enable the holistic development of children with a parent in custody. Depending on circumstance, children of inmates may need to deal with issues of:

betrayal, hurt, doubt, depression, confusion,

shame, social exclusion, loss of parental support, reduced living standard and/or relocation.

 

Recognising this, Prison Fellowship has developed the WerX initiative to help equip children with the means to confidently face and overcome obstacles and embrace a full and happy life.

The WerX continues in development from year to year, as it seeks the best ways to aid the positive spiritual, physical, intellectual and social development of these children. The WerX currently consists of the Camp WerX camps, with RelaX WerX, eXcape WerX & NetwerX currently in development.

We hope that supporting the children of inmates through the many problems life can throw at them is a shared vision. With God’s great blessing and the help of generous sponsors and volunteers, we will see great change in the lives of many of these “at risk” children.

While Camp WerX remains the primary focus of the WerX initiative, Prison Fellowship continues to develop the program to include further events throughout the year. Our aim is for team members to have the opportunity (and encouragement) to further work with the children as we develop longer term support programs.

Some of the support programs in development/trial are,

• eXcape WerX – Leadership development for junior high school campers
• RelaX WerX – Day events for the whole family
• NetWerX - Connecting campers with the WerX team and each other in a support network

We are always looking for volunteers and team members to join The WerX team. If you love working with children and enjoy a challenge, you will find joining our WerX team a very rewarding experience!
